Dawn,

This helps A LOT! We are in a similar situation here. It is also my first year here and we have had many librarians in the past 5 years who all did things differently. ☺ Thank you!

Hi Jennifer,

This was my first year as a school librarian and when I got into my first job, the graphics were a mess....Some were still under 741.5, some where in a special designation GRA, some where mixed into non-fiction all over....

I pulled all the graphics out and put them under the designation GRA. They are separate from the fiction and non-fiction but are split by fiction and non by their spine label. For example, Smile by Telgemeier is GRA TEL and Graphic Novels: Pearl Harbor is GRA 940.5 BAR.

I have many students who really love the graphics, the boys especially will look at the non fiction, so this just makes them easy to find and browse all together.

Hope this helps,

Hi all. Our school library originally housed our graphic “novel” collection on a special shelf. Now, however, our GN collection is growing and we have many kinds of graphic books, not just “novels." Keeping it organized in a useful way is proving a challenge. Do you split out your graphic books into a separate collection? Do Manga have a special place? Do you shelve graphic books in the regular nonfiction and fiction collection and put a G or GN on the spine label? What have you found most useful? I hope my question makes sense.
Thoughts?
Thank you!

Jennifer
