[ISLMA-Share] Book Weeding

I've divided the Dewey collection into thirds and weed 1/3 of the
collection every March; I weed fiction every year. I follow the MUSTY
guidelines that have been posted here already, and use the "no check-outs
in the last 5-years" guideline in fiction as that's the part of the
collection that I find the hardest to weed. While weeding, I keep a
running list of popular titles that need to be replaced over the summer
(example--this year all Fitzgerald, Frost, and Hemingway will be replaced).

We have a 25¢-per-item used book sale every April that includes lots of
spring-cleaning donations from the high school's staff. Whatever doesn't
sell will be offered to local public libraries for their upcoming sales.
But the worst offenders of the MUSTY guidelines never make it to the book
sale; they are discarded, recycled, or used by students in the art
department.
