I weed every spring in my non-fiction sections that get less use (200s, 700s, 100s, 500s, certain 900s). I weed every two years in fiction, graphic novels and non-fiction that gets plenty of use (300s, 800s, 600s). I take out anything damaged and recycle it. If it is just old, I donate it. Occasionally I have given old materials directly to a teacher or department that I thought might want them. If I am recycling items, I make sure to give any hardcovers to the art department (minus the damaged pages) for various projects that they have.

Also, I inventory as I weed in the lesser used sections. This allows me to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning,

I am going through a LARGE weeding process (I have never done it before lol). This is year 3 with no weeding....I am getting new carpet this year so it is perfect timing. I plan to start on Monday...any advice? How many years should I go back--I was thinking since 2010 (last check out date)? Do you just give them away? Donate them?

I am happy to let you all know what we have (in general) to see if anyone wants them.

Any advice is great!
