Authors love to come to schools!
Make sure you contact the author before he comes to make sure he doesn't
have any special requests.
Once that's done, spend the week or two before his arrival talking about
him and the types of books he writes with your target audience.
If the author is going to read from his book, you may not want to have the
students read it before hand.
If not, and if it is a short book, you may want to read part or all of the
book.
The day of the event, make sure you have someone who can be his "handler"
to take care of money, questions and etc.
Sit back and enjoy!
Authors typically make wonderful presenters!
