Our district has also changed to traveling librarians for the 2016-2017 school year with 3 of us as District elementary Directors (3-4 schools each), 6 of us teaching STEM next year and 1 went up to Middle School. Would LOVE to hear how others handle traveling, scheduling etc.

I served three schools for years.

I kept MY schedule flexible.

The libraries closed when the aide went to lunch. (A necessary evil)

I gave instruction to students at the different schools at a focused time. One week I might be teaching OPAC to 4th graders at an individual school for three days in a row. Then it would be another building.

I had a clerk at each location and they handled all circulation. I handled administrative (selection, cataloging, etc.) and they handled processing. And as I said, I scheduled instruction time with teachers. I had units of instruction that it was my goal to cover with each student annually.

Hi,

I am a District Librarian who oversees 5 buildings with aide coverage. Right now, I am traveling each day to a different school in the morning to check in and then returning to my office in the afternoon (I have to be back by noon each day to cover an aide for her lunch). This isn't working... I can't get caught up... or complete a project. I find I start something, then have to pack up and start it all over at a new location. No lessons are being taught in the libraries (:(). Is anyone else in the same situation... I am looking for ideas on how to work at a different place without a desk, phone, etc... The unorganization and stress is causing much anxiety and stress this year. Wanting to make a change for next year... Any ideas?

Thanks,

Amy
