Dear I-Share Readers--

National Library Legislative Day is Tuesday, May 3 in Washington D.C. with
library advocates going to Capitol Hill and visiting with their U.S.
Senators and Congressmen. Since it is impossible for most of us to be in
DC, there is a way to participate virtually

During the week of May 1-7, it is important for your senators and
congressmen to hear from you in regards to all libraries especially school
libraries. The two emails below contain information on how you and your
colleagues and even students can participate.

Check it out and be ready to advocate next week.

Note: Due to issues with the new list, I am using a different email
address. I can be reached via the gmail address above.

Please consider participating in Virtual Library Legislative Day personally
and with your students and colleagues through the ALA Washington Office and
The Harry Potter Alliance toolkit (attached) with suggestions on how
younger people can be involved. Emily Sheketoff's e-mail below has links
that will help you take part.

Not able to make it to National Library Legislative? Don’t worry, you can
still join us virtually!

Starting at 9:00am EDT, we’ll be streaming the morning sessions
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzPtq7M-znI> live from Washington, DC.
You’ll get a chance to hear Former Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ) give a
keynote, along with a timely rundown of all the major legislative issues
that we’re addressing this year.

Not only that, but you can also help expand the impact that we have on
National Library Legislative Day by participating virtually. All you need
to do is head over to the Virtual Library Legislative Day registration form
<http://goo.gl/forms/T8rgo9UoiK> and sign up.

We’ll follow up by sending out talking points and resources that you can
use to send an email, make a call, or post a Tweet through our Action
Center. There’s also a handy resource toolkit
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzUCAywi1eQDSW9laWJkNUlSSDZaY3oxM013X3hSTjJMZlhj/view>,
put together by the Harry Potter Alliance, for librarians who may want to
get younger advocates involved. You can find out more by visiting the
United for Libraries <http://www.ala.org/united/advocacy/virtuallegday> and the
Harry Potter Alliance
