The best examples to compare it to are Escape Rooms which are extremely
popular in the general public. You and a group are locked in a themed room
and you have to solve puzzles and clues to get the key to escape. The
puzzles are usually not linear, such as here is clue 1 and it leads to clue
2. There is just a bunch of stuff in the room and the participants have to
use critical thinking to put clues together and solve puzzles.

BreakoutEDU uses this concept but in the classroom to teach teamwork and
critical thinking skills. It's so fun and all my 1st-12th graders love them
and I have had kids asking me over summer break if we will be doing of them
more this school year.

Visit the website Www.breakoutedu.com and also their Facebook page (search
for breakoutedu). You can do as little or as much as you want as far as the
kits are concerned. I bought cheap walmart and dollar store toolboxes. I
got the more specialized locks from amazon with a bit of donated money I
had left. Nothing fancy but well worth it and it supports Common Core which
administration love.

Let me know if you additional questions.
