We also use the GVRL - I like it because you can customize the titles in the collection.

Other Gale databases we have are: STudent Resources in Context; Global Issues in Context; Opposing Viewpoints in Context (really good for problem/solution papers and class debates)

>From Facts on File we use World News DIgest; Issues and Controversies; Today's Science

ProQuest History Vault is a new database for us - historic newspapers

The only EBSCO we have is Education Research Complete - I really like it because it covers those educational topics that the other databases don't really cover at all.

We also have CQ Researcher which is excellent for our Problem/Solution Research Papers.

There are lots of options out there and none of them are cheap, that's for sure. I have found that monitoring the kind of research our classes are doing helps me to choose the databases that work best for our needs. Plus, the ones you feel most comfortable teaching will be the ones that your students and staff will feel comfortable with too.

Thanks for bringing this up - I like to hear what other schools are using.

ABC-CLIO are the most used databases where I teach. They really work cross curricular, but especially well in social studies and as novel prep. Some classes have started using them in place of a textbook. For English classes, I think the best is Gale Literature. Personally I like Gale better than EBSCO, but I know I have teachers who feel just the opposite. Please email me off list if you have any further question.

We currently use the following databases for our HS only:

  *   Gale Virtual Reference Library
  *   ProQuest SIRS
  * Gale Student Resources in Context

What databases do you use? Do any of you use EBSCO, how would you rate EBSCO compared to Gale? Considering changing to EBSCO K-12. Opinions?
