[ISLMA-Share] Hosting Destiny

[Email list for the Illinois School Library Media Association]

I have no positives or negatives about Destiny to share, but there are some
questions worth knowing the answers to:


   - Who owns the data that the school is providing/inputting into the
   program?
   - Who is liable for the protection of that data?
   - Is there a guarantee of quality of service (uptime) and any process
   for reviewing the program's performance and delivery?
   - What happens should the school board suddenly decide to cancel the
   contract, or if Destiny gets sold? By "what happens" I mean -- to the
   school's information that is in the system and to whatever remains of the
   service contract.

There are far too many software systems that our schools are using that do
not address these potential issues at all, let alone that address them in a
manner that is both legal and practical.  Having these answers up front
saves a great deal of grief later.
