[ISLMA-Share] Genre-fying Question

Just finished up ours last week - middle school. Here are our categories:

  *   Sci-Fi

We ended up adding a "scary" section.  When I thought about the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew in the same section as Mary Downing Hahn, it made me think we needed one more section.  And the kiddos know that the books in that section are SCARY!  Coraline, Hahn books, A Tale Dark and Grimm, and then we did move our Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark to this section too.  We took a bit of liberty with Dewey on that one.  Changed them to SCARY 398.2 and kept them in the non-fic circ type (kind of a pain for inventory, but we just made a note of that in our inventory notes so we don't forget from year to year).  We did that too for our HUMOR section this year.  We moved our jokes books there on the suggestion of one of my colleagues, and boy, do they MOVE now!

We genre-fied two years ago, and it's been the best change we have made around here!

Here are our genres that we settled on in case you or anyone else is interested!

MYSTERY
ADVENTURE
ANIMALS (was kind of tough to choose between animals and fantasy on so many of the books can cross over)
FANTASY
REALISTIC FIC
HUMOR
GRAPHIC NOVELS
SCARY
FAIRY TALES (kept these as a 398.2 and NF circ types, but pulled into its separate section)
POETRY (same as above - kept as 811 but pulled into separate section)

I am seeking opinions of the many wise librarians on this list. I am genre-fying my fiction section and have a section for Mystery/Horror books, which will include traditional mysteries, ghosts, horror, etc. I have a number of books in my folktale area that would qualify for this section.
