[ISLMA-Share] weeding my library advice

Are you able to run circulation reports? I would suggest running a report
to identify all the specific titles that have not circulated at all or more
than one time in the last "x" number of years, plus another report that
lists all the titles older than "x" year. Then, I would begin by removing
those titles. You also may want to just walk the shelves, and just pull
all the worst looking and damaged books to begin with (except, perhaps, the
"classics" that you may want to hold on to if there is no money to replace
them right now).

Then, I would run a collection analysis, and look at the numbers to
identify specific sections that have the greatest need. I also inherited a
library with tons of really old, poorly circulated books, and this approach
worked well for me, though there may be a better way, I suppose.

Also, when I periodically weed, I put the books on "free" carts in the
library for students and staff to take home. Then, I dispose of what is
not taken.
