[ISLMA-Share] Checking out books for the summer

Jill and all,

I am at a HS only district, but 3 years ago I started allowing students the
opportunity to check out books for the summer. The due date is the first
day of class so that I always know if the item was for summer check out. I
do open 4 mornings a summer, but mostly I get incoming freshmen working on
honors summer assignments and very few students checking out and returning
books. The books come back in August and the students get to read. It is
only recently that all our students became part of a public library
district, so I understand what it is to have some families without public
library access. I say go for it, and allow the books to go out over the
summer. What is the point of letting them gather dust?
