If it helps, this year and next, the Illinois Center for the Book has partnered with ILA to continue the iREAD theme through Family Reading Night. So, this year’s Family Reading Night theme is the same as ILA’s summer reading program – Read for the Win.

The Family Reading Night Read for the Win poster, bookmark and general programming ideas are downloadable from the Illinois Center for the Book’s Family Reading Night page – http://cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/center_for_the_book/frn.html.

That was the theme for the Illinois Library Association summer reading program. They always produce a booklet of activities. Maybe your public library has it! (It's still available but costs.) I'm sure you can also find other libraries that posted ideas. If you google "read for the win" a bunch of Pinterest boards come up! Ireadprogram.org

That said, how about mini olympic type games (just coming off of summer olympics) like javelin throw with soda straws, discus with small paper plates, etc. Mini golf--each "hole" has a flag with a book cover on it? Corn hole game only cover the boards with paper and decorate like the cover of books? Twister--make each color a book genre (yellow is mystery, green is sci fi, etc. then call out "right hand mystery", etc)

Have fun!

Pat,

You may already know about the following Family Reading Night publications but wanted to pass them along, just in case.

My brain has exhausted all ideas for Family Reading Night. The theme this year is Read- For the Win. Each classroom has to come up with an activity and everyone is asking me for ideas. If anyone has done an activity with this theme in mind, will you please share? I can't think of a better group to help . Thanks in advance for any suggestions. This will be for grades Pre-K through 4.
