I took YA lit last spring, and a few titles that we thought were good were:

The Family Romanov: murder, rebellion and the fall of imperial Russia, by
Candace Fleming
Terrible Typhoid Mary: a true story of the deadliest cook in America, by
Susan Bartoletti
My Seneca Village, by Marilyn Nelson
Day of Tears: a novel in dialogue, by Julius Lester
