I go as many decimal places out as I need to in order to diffentiate
between subjects. Football, basketball, baseball need at least 2, but 3
places separates football and soccer and gives them their own number. 599
usually needs up to 3 places. 523 needs 2, unless you are willing to mix
up the planets. 574, 591, and 629 also need at least 2. You need to see
where the differentiation needs to be made to keep like topics together, so
it depends on your collection. I really try not to exceed 3.

I am re-thinking Dewey numbers – right now we go 2 decimal point out – does
anyone just go 1 out or none at all? Pros? Cons?
