I think you're talking about the Guardian

capability.  It's a pretty nifty way to keep parents and mentors involved
in student progress.

   - Does not require the Guardian to have a Gmail address.
   - Guardians have to be invited by the teacher.
   - Guardians can't actually see "inside" the Google Classroom, they get email
   summaries <https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6388136>of
   progress.
   - Once a Guardian has been invited in for one Classroom the teacher can
   link that Guardian to their student's other Classrooms.
