It depends on the year and who’s teaching, but we’ve done:

· Jurassic Park or The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks in Honors Bio

· A choice of five books for Honors Econ- Superfreakonomics; Naked Economics; The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy; Hot, Flat, and Crowded; or Supercrunchers

· American Diversity reads one book (student’s choice) from a list of about 30 on various topics of immigration, discrimination, etc.

· World History does student’s choice of one pre-WW2 non-fiction from outside the US (there’s a toughie to provide)

Subject: Re: [ISLMA-Share] Books in HS Classes

My high school kids are reading the
Read For A Life Time Books. This book list is put out by the Secretary of State. If they will read four or more books they will get an awards certificate at the awards ceremony at the end of school. I have read most of them and they are very good.

All,

I posted this late last week, but thought that I would repost today. My question is: what books, if any, are being read in your high schools outside of English classes? For instance, The Martian in math or science. If none, please reply the same.

Thanks for your help,
