I have done a Grades 4-5 Book Club for about 15 years!
They are at a great age to have a club as they want to talk about books!!
I have done it once a week either before school or during their lunch
period.
I prefer lunch time as attendance is better and they are excited about
getting out of the cafeteria.
I use the Bluestem nominees and let the students choose between a couple of
them. Sometimes we read together, sometimes they read in small groups,
other times we listen to audio books. No real set format.
Probably the maximum number I would suggest is 25, but my current club
actually has 30.
All in all, I have absolutely loved doing this! You get to see students in
a different way.
If you have any questions, just email me.
