I’m seconding this recommendation and strongly suggesting you listen to the audiobook. It’s magnificent and has music woven beautifully throughout the stories.  Beautiful book.

Echo by Pam Munroz Ryan has three interwoven stories and one is of a girl whose father is a migrant worker and is hoping to finally settle down...it isn't the whole book, but that particular story was very moving.
