Hi:

I would like to see your one page handout. I am thinking of doing one myself and would like to know what you had on it.

Thanks,

Subject: Re: [ISLMA-Share] NoodleTools HS

We've used Noodletools for 6 years--we're very happy with it and with the updates for Google apps and for mobile devices. Our English department, a Science teacher with APA, and the CNA teacher use it, to various degrees.

Pros--Agree with all the Pros mentioned previously! It's quite affordable. It interfaces with Google for Education.

  * Teachers like interactive features where projects are shared with teacher so can see progress, can see original quoted material and student's paraphrase to assess who needs to review notetaking/paraphrasing. We had to drop TurnItIn due to price increases, so are counting more on seeing writing process/paraphrasing work in notecards this year.
  * Teachers like that notecards are not left at home or spilled all over hallway.
  * It has great tech support and MLA consulting support.
  * We have 1:1 ipads, & students work on Noodletools with their ipads in classrooms and study hall. But especially with the outline, and for printing, most classes prefer the computer labs or the Chromebooks
Cons:

  * It has a learning curve, but less now that Google Docs is more familiar to students.

     * We teach the Works Cited page at Freshman level, add notecards for soph/jr projects.
     * Transfer students have to do a little catch up.
     * Although a project may go slower at the beginning, from teaching how to use the software as well as how to do the project, we make up time at the end when it's so easy to export the Works Cited page.
Before we went to the Google sign-in, I could see our graduates had logged in during summer after graduation, to use for college classes, so that speaks to them finding it useful. I highly recommend trying Noodletools. We made a one-page handout to start students out-- if it would be helpful to you to see it, please email me off the list.

Pros: Reasonable cost. Very nice new interface. New this fall -- the ability for your school/district to sync with a GAFE account for login/password (we're doing that in the spring). Easy for students to export citations to different formats. Easy sharing of projects with a teacher. For teachers, easy to see the work different students have contributed to group projects. Projects can be saved year to year for students who are creating college portfolios. Has To-Do lists. Has Outline creator. Has Notecard creator. Does everything we used to do on paper & with note cards, except it's digital. Students can access it from anywhere there's Internet access.

Cons: other than the Internet going out, I can't think of any off hand. The Internet will always be an issue. What do your teachers do now when the Internet goes out and their students need to do online research or type papers?

At our school, it is not mandatory for teachers to use NoodleTools, but those who do like it and many students will use it on their own to keep themselves organized. Not everyone uses all the features though, which are very helpful. One of our administrators wrote his doctoral thesis using NoodleTools and Google Drive and said it was a very positive experience. I've used it for graduate classwork as well.

Good Morning,

Our school is considering subscribing to NoodleTools or something similar. If you use NoodleTools, or EasyBib, Citelighter, or something similar, would you be willing to share your pros and cons? I am talking with the English department tomorrow about this and would like some more information. I know one question they are going to ask is what they are supposed to do if their class relies on doing their paper through NoodleTools and the internet is not working at school or home.

Thanks in advance!
