This seems kind of funny. After teaching math and science in our middle school for twelve years, I became our district librarian when my friend retired. (I spent many hours, and $, taking classes to get my endorsements for middle school and elementary LMS.) After two years, the district made budget cuts, cutting my job. I've been in a fourth-grade classroom ever since. An aide is now in the middle school library on a part-time basis. There is NO certified librarian serving in our K-12 district. SO, the answer is probably, "No" to this question. I hate this.

Absolutely insist on a certified person as your substitute. You are a teacher. The library is your classroom. They wouldn't consider having a non-certified person cover a classroom all day.

My admin just came in and asked me if a certified teacher was required to cover me when I'm gone for illness/conferences/etc. Does anyone know the "law" on this?
