I think that it depends on your circulation rates. If you circulate a lot of books, having a high ratio of books per student would be ideal. However if your circ rates are "average", then it looks like a ratio of 10:1 is more typical.

During my library certification classes, we were told a ratio of 20:1 is appropriate for a school library. So, with your student population you would want to be at about 8,600 books. Hope this helps!

Hi all!

My library got renovated during the summer and today the company came to put all my books back on the shelves. Lo and behold, there are not enough shelves! We are 26 shelves short! Which led the project manager on the business end to ask me if I am perhaps a bit "heavy" on books?

Can anyone tell me what your collection number is for a middle school with around 430 students? I have 10,000 books.
