[ISLMA-Share] 7th grade - male protagonist "approaching adulthood" unit

Hi everyone,

We are searching for a companion text to go with *House on Mango Street*
for use in a 7th grade "Approaching Adulthood" unit.  The girls tend to
like *Mango Street,* but the boys do not connect with it as much.

The first book that comes to my mind is *Perks of Being a Wallflower*, but
there is inappropriate content for middle school.  Other suggestions with a
male protagonist that is more age appropriate?
