You can take credit cards through the book fair toolkit. I just looked into it yesterday, since my fair is supposed to be here Friday. You have to type in their name and credit card info. If they give you an email address, it will send them a receipt. We’re supposed to get an email with daily receipts of credit card sales. I was told we just need to add up all the cash at the end and send that to Scholastic, we don’t need to keep track of what we’re selling.

Subject: Re: [ISLMA-Share] Tabletop book fair

I have run our book fair during our chili supper the last few years. (I am in a classroom now, so I don't get to have it during the school day.) I have been informed about a "tabletop" fair also. During the chili supper I'm supposed to be open for two hours. I stand and check people out continuously for at least 2.5 hours. There is absolutely no way that I would even want to consider running a fair without the register. Most of the parents want to use debit or credit cards. (They are used to being able to use them now.) Does anyone else fell this way, and what response have you gotten from Scholastic?

Thanks
Cheryl B

One of our smaller schools used the tabletop book fair. It seemed to work okay, but I know if you don't have a percentage of sales, Scholastic will make it a tabletop one. We put ours in an empty classroom. I was not involved--the PTO ran it. The selection was limited and did not include older titles.

I'm curious if you all are experiencing this because of your sales volume. I was told 2 years ago that I had to go to "box" fairs. I had several problems with that including the fact that they WOULD NOT send me the more mature titles I wanted (the ones that sold well). I talked them into letting me keep the cart fairs. Are they getting rid of cart fairs completely? I don't have space OR tables to do a box fair. Opening those carts and selling was so simple. Not sure what I'll do now.

We just set up a tabletop this afternoon. It looks good but were unable to use many of the table top displays as we have mostly free-standing table and I am afraid of the displays getting knocked over. My big disappointment is no cash register. It's like going back to the 1980s. Very time-consumming.

So this year is the first year that I will be having the tabletop book fair by Scholastic. Has anyone had one yet? I have had the "big-case" book fairs for the past 3 years and loved them. Now Scholastic throws this at me and says that there won't be cases or a cash register. I am a bit afraid of the unknown when it comes to this.

Any pointers? Any advice?
