Good Morning All!

I have a teacher who cannot remember the title to a book. Here are the
clues I received. I am stumped, too.

 The story is about a little girl (a black girl, I think)....and the
premise is that there is a "mother pie." The little girl doesn't have a mom
( If I remember correctly) and so she gets all of her needs met through her
"mother pie." Different people give her different slices....like one helps
her with her school work, and one gives her hugs, etc.... and it's
basically how the community can provide the things a kid needs when they
don't have it at home. I know that the phrase mother pie or mamma pie is
used....
