I sounds like “narrative non-fiction” to me. An example would be
“Bomb: the race to steal …..” or “Lincoln’s Grave Robbers” by Shenkin. Any of the Jim Murphy non-fiction (American Plague). There are great lists out on the web.

The difference between historical fiction and narrative or creative non-fiction is that in historical fiction the event is real but the characters, actions, and other details are fictional. In narrative non-fiction actions and events are dramatized but not fictionalized. Characters in the story are portrayed as themselves.

Subject: [ISLMA-Share] Sub-genre Semi-Fiction

Hi all,

We use the purchased Schoolwide Curriculum here for LA. I am struggling with a sub-genre they call Semi-Fiction.

Here is the teacher's description:

"It's defined as a text that implements a great deal of nonfiction, such as a fictional depiction "based on a true story", or a reconstructed biography. I don't really understand how this would be differentiated from historical or realistic fiction."

I agree with her. Anyone know of any titles I could suggest to her that would fit this term of Semi-Fiction? She thought Someone Named Eva, I thought Countdown, by Deborah Wiles.

Any help is appreciated!
