If it is really only two pages you could treat it like a ripped page book where you get copies of the pages missing and replace them. I did that a few times. Takes some work but ....
If it's more then that, it's a bio hazard.

I would replace the book.  Even tape or glue over the area would not make it safe or enjoyable for anyone else to read (yucky and a health risk!) If you don't feel comfortable asking for replacement cost, perhaps have that student buy that book for a portion of the cost.
