We are looking for picture books, easy readers, chapter books, graphic novels, nonfiction-- any book that appeals to students in kindergarten to 3rd grade. Books must be copyright 2014 or later. I'm sure we all have our favorite new books for this age group, but a book can't be on the Monarch list if it isn't nominated. Please help us select awesome books for students by nominating your favorite!
Thanks so much,Nora WiltseISLMA Monarch Award Nominations CommitteeCoonley Elementary, Chicago Public Schoolsnswiltse at cps.edu

Does anyone have their iPads mounted to the wall and if so, what brand are you most happy with?  I am looking at doing this for our look up stations instead of using desktop or laptop computers.

Thanks!

Just an outside the box thought...we use the white wire book display holders.  They have been a very cheap. very flexible alternative. We can use them on any counter and the kids can pick up the ipad or just type on it while the holder keeps it upright (at a slight angle) for them. Works well for us.  We returned the expensive wall mounts we had purchased.

Our teachers work with their team to create goals for their classroom - I suggest monthly or quarterly goals based on their reading level and how many books they check out.
They work with instructional coaches to do different big incentives as well like locker decorations and a party at the end of the school year.
In the library, I do an end of the year AR  store where students can shop with their points. You can close this to just students who meet their goal consistently or open it to every student. It gets them books at the end of the year to take home (and other fun goodies).
If you have any more questions you can email me at kharvey at bn98.org.

Hello!!
I am new to the library position this year and I was just told by my administration that Accelerated Reader quizzes are going to be mandatory for the classroom teachers this year.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to help the classroom teachers implement this and if anyone has any ideas of how to motivate the students and keep the students motivated throughout the year.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Carolyn Delby

Maine Township / District 207 has used Follett/Destiny for 10 years. We use it as a union catalog for our three schools.  It is easy to navigate for both students and staff, run reports and take inventory. I would highly recommend.
