[ISLMA-Share] lost books

I also work in a Title I school.

When we have this situation, I first check with the office to make sure of
the difficulty with payment. If I'm right, I let the student work it off.
For us it's 2 or 3 half hour increments - often not the value of the book,
but enough that they get what's going on. If we have interaction with the
parents, the parents are welcome to come work alongside their child.

Also, I sometimes have a student bring in their allowance or other money
that they have, and I accept that as payment and waive the rest of the fine.

Our administration is on board with these policies, but implementation is
left to Media staff discretion.
