[ISLMA-Share] 3M system

Hi all,

I'm looking for professional input on a decision and knew I could do no
better than consulting the collective wisdom of our group!

I have a 20 year plus tattle tape system in our library. The detectors
pick up not only books that haven't been desensitized but also teacher
laptops, sometimes key rings, random people with nothing in their pockets.
Kids and teachers have been jumpy just going through the gates because of
it. I unplugged it this fall and no one has even remarked about the system
NOT going off all the time.

Here's the sticking point: the library is going through an asbestos
abatement this summer and we will get new flooring at that time. The head
of maintenance wants to know if I want to keep and reinstall the system
given I have unplugged it. It represents a large investment of money, but
from considerably long ago. I hate spending the money on tattle strips and
the huge 3M resensitizer should be replaced due to age and malfunctioning
but it costs over $1000 to replace. We don't have a huge theft issue at
our rural school of 650 students. Should I scrap the system or keep it?

Thanks so much in advance for your opinions!
