SS.G.2.4 Analyze how the cultural and environmental characteristics of
places in Illinois change over time

You can do the change through time by looking at maps. There are lots of
historical railroad and highway maps freely available online. Check LOC,
Illinois Dept of Transportation, Illinois Digital Archives, etc. If you
have a poster printer you can print them, but you can also just access them
online.
