I just color coded and moved mine into genres at the high school and I love it! Trying to get all the middle school books finished now for the move.

A few years ago I added genre stickers to the books at the middle school, but left them in A-Z order. It made very little difference to the students looking for a certain type of book. I am still in the process of relabeling and reorganizing the middle school and sticking to the genre stickers instead of color because they were already on much of our collection. However, the see-through color labels at the high school look much better.

Our middle school categories are:

Adventure
Classics
Fantasy
Historical
Horror
Mystery
Realistic
Sci-Fi
Sports

My high school collection does not have Adventure, but does have Humor and Romance. I’m not done with middle school labels, but at the high school my largest sections are Fantasy, Realistic, Romance, and Sci-Fi. Surprisingly, Sports was very small.
