North Shore Country Day School, a JK‐12 independent school near Chicago,
seeks a Head or Instructional Librarian to build an award winning school
library program.

The new staff member’s title will be determined based on the chosen
candidate’s background and experience level. Five years of applicable
experience in libraries and a MLIS (or similar degree) are required for
consideration. Previous teaching experience is also highly desirable. North
Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally
underrepresented in independent school communities.

This newly expanded role will be focused on taking a growing and vibrant
grade 6–12 library program to the next level, complementing the JK–5
program. Our Hall Library is a fun and welcoming place, and we continue to
seek ways to best serve the students and teachers of our JK‐12 school. It
is a teaching space, a place to get help or relax, and a source of
information and books. Reflecting how students use libraries today, the
Hall Library uses a version of the METIS classification scheme we call
iBrowse.

The librarian will take the lead in the daily management of the North Shore
Country Day School Hall Library, including overseeing checkout, selecting
and processing new materials, and supervising students in the library.
Beyond the daily management, the librarian will create and execute a vision
for a library that is well positioned for the needs of today and of
tomorrow.

Individuals seeking the role should be able to articulate their excitement
about the current opportunities and challenges for school libraries as well
as to demonstrate their ability to become a respected voice among the
Middle and Upper School faculty and collaborate with those groups to
deliver high quality instruction. Our ideal candidate has a love of
students, teachers, libraries and books. The ideal candidate will be
equally comfortable with and take joy in providing high level library
leadership and vision and putting that vision into daily action.

Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter, resume, list of references,
and a vision for an excellent school library (creativity with the vision is
welcome). All information should be submitted to electronically to
careers at nscds.org <%20careers at nscds.org>.

North Shore offers competitive salaries that are commensurate with
experience. Additionally, North Shore provides an excellent employee
benefits program, including health and retirement benefits, tuition support
for children’s attendance at North Shore, and professional development
funding to support summer study, attendance at conferences/workshops,
travel, and advanced degree work. For more information about North Shore
Country Day School and the opportunities available for members of our
faculty, please go to www.nscds.org/careers. We are fully committed to a
culturally diverse faculty and student body.
