-----------------------------------

If you haven't written or called Congressman Mike Quigley's office: (202)
225-4061, please do so today. We don't want the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) to be eliminated, as proposed by the Trump
administration, and more importantly, these Library Services and Technology
Act (LSTA) funds are essential to the Illinois State Library and the
Illinois library community. The vote is tomorrow at 10:00 Eastern standard
time, 9:00 Central time.

Thank you!

CONFIRMED: House Appropriations Committee Votes Wednesday AM on Library
Funding, More

Good morning all. It's official.

The *House Appropriations Committee has formally announced
<https://appropriations.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=395002>
that it will definitely meet tomorrow* morning at 10 AM Eastern time to
debate and vote on the large "Labor-HHS" spending bill approved in
Subcommittee last week that preserved IMLS and other key library funding at
last year's levels without cuts.

Thanks very much for those of you with Representatives on the House
Appropriations Committee for *continuing today* to encourage your members
to *send an email through the **ALA Action Center*
<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/app/write-a-letter?3&engagementId=376193> to ask
the 52 key members of the Committee (see charts below) to oppose any
proposal to cut library funding when they meet and vote tomorrow.

Please let us know if you have any questions and, as you can, what you hear
back from your Representative. Many thanks,

Adam

Committee Members Today

To Chapters:

[A similar message was sent late Friday. Thanks for continuing to help!]

Please forward a call to action to your members if your state has members
on the House Appropriations Committee!

*The full Committee is likely to meet and vote on that bill this Wednesday,
July 19. So we need messages sent today and tomorrow.*

We have reconfigured ALA’s Legislative Action Center
<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/app/write-a-letter?3&engagementId=376193> to
enable constituents of all House Appropriations Committee members to reach
their Representatives with that message.

This is the next stop for a bill just adopted in Subcommittee that
preserves last year’s funding level ($231 million) for IMLS. (We’ve also
confirmed that the bill level-funds Innovative Approaches to Literacy at
$27 million.)
It’s important that all 52 Members of the full Committee hear from their
constituents now in support of maintaining full funding for IMLS, LSTA and
IAL.

If your chapter is in one of the 33 key states (please see state list and
full Committee roster below) represented by someone on the full Committee,
please direct your members to the Legislative Action Center so they can ask
their Representative on the House Appropriations Committee to preserve
library funding. For maximum effect, it would be very helpful for your
members to receive that message before Monday mid-day (your local time).
Please note that Chapter members who are not constituents of Committee
members who access the Action Center will see a message indicating that
there’s no action for them to take at this time.
