[ISLMA-Share] automating for the 1st time

We print our own bar codes from the Destiny program. Always have. I do not know how much cheaper this is than buying from Destiny.

I agree that it is a long process and depends on the size of your collection and what kind of help you get. We do love Destiny. For our district it does everything we need it to do.

I made the change from manual system to destiny 6 years ago. I bought the bar code labels from destiny and was happy. Main point-don't expect to get this all done in one year. Took me about 2.5 to 3 years with no aide.

I just transitioned my "paper pencil" library to Destiny. If you want to send me your email I can fill you in on what I learned!

I am starting in a new district this fall, and the admin wants to automate the system (right now it is still in card catalog format). Any advice on where to begin? I've been researching platforms, and I like what I hear about Destiny. Any input?

I also talked to a sales rep, and she mentioned purchasing all the barcodes from Destiny in bulk. Right now there are no barcodes at all on any books. Is that the best route to take?

Any advice would be appreciated! This is a big project.
