My Losing Season by Pat Conroy remains one of the best books I've ever read.

I feel like any that Phil Jackson wrote could be good.

In the Company of Men is by the first woman to attend the Citadel. Powerful.

Left for Dead the story of a young man search for justice for the USS Indianapolis. Or something g like that. Powerful about a junior hogh kids' history project that lasted past high school. He made a difference in exonerating the crew and the captain of this only ship that was court-martialed during World War II. This ship delivered the bomb and then went back along its way only to be torpedoed and the men were in the water for days as sharks took them. No one even knew they were missing for several days. Horrible and yet a very powerful story of how when young man could make a difference.

I'm not sure this is exactly what you are looking for, but one of my very favorite books is 'Hole in My Life' by Jack Gantos. It tells the story of a mistake he made when he was a teen, his arrest, and imprisonment for his crime. It is a very raw, honest book.

Talk about isolation!

Hope this helps.

Hello all of my fellow librarians!

Since you were all so helpful to Stephanie, I was hoping you could offer some suggestions for a friend of mine. Here is what she is looking for:

Suggestions for:

  * Male junior in HS who wants to be a coach or high school history teacher. LOVES history and LOVE sports/basketball.
  *   Theme must be "isolation/alienation" OR "honor/disloyalty"

Can any of you think of a good biography about a coach or perhaps a non-fiction book regarding history or a war/event that may revolve around the theme "isolation/alienation" OR "honor/disloyalty"?

Your ideas would be so appreciated. I am an elementary librarian so I'm not much help with this age level.

Thank you!
