[ISLMA-Share] endorsement or full masters?

My masters is actually an MSLS from University of KY from '79. BA in Jr. High Education w/HS endorsements. Taught jr high ELA & social studies for 5 years, married, moved several times--several states, thought I'd left the profession for good.

Fast forward to my current HS library position, started 11 years ago after a long hiatus. I updated my KY license to include the library endorsement for K-12 in KY. When I then applied for my IL license, I also received a K-12 approval based on my coursework & took the IL K-12 test for the endorsement.

My admin shares my views on the importance of the masters, & told me that during my interview. I think he would definitely be more favorable to a candidate w/masters if there was a choice to be made.

Something else to consider for down the road. If you are interested in working in a college, public or private library after you retire, a masters will qualify you many times where an endorsement will not.

Best advice my mom ever gave me about getting a degree was that no one can ever take that away from you & it can open doors you never knew existed. Just food for thought :)

Good luck.

Turned out the endorsement was only up to 4th grade (came up during a district audit) and my school was K-5. So, I took the test so I could be endorsed for 5th grade, which basically entailed getting a PreK or K-9 certificate. (can't remember which it was.) I was in the same district as I taught in previously, so the masters degree didn't hurt my chances. Also, all of our librarians have masters degrees in library science.
