How about having them create infographics about their animal. I did this
with 5th grade last year but they were able to choose their topic of
research. One girl researched ostriches. She found out the size of the egg,
then tried to find an every day object to compare it to. She did the same
thing for the height and weight. She had maps of where they are found in
the wild, as well as maps of where they farm ostriches. I know she included
graphs too, but can't recall what data it showed. I felt this activity
helped them digest the information and think creatively about how to best
represent the information. Since there are already some infographics on the
internet about various animals, we made it a point that they couldn't
recreate or copy infographics that were already out there.
