I have an administrative certificate, but I am hired as a teacher and not
an administrator in my district. Even so, I wrote the assistant job
description, read all the applications and determined who to interview,
scheduled the interviews, and been a part of the interviewing and selection
process with my department chair, who is hired as an administrator.  I
determine the day to day activities for the assistants and set up routines.
We meet as a group during "team time" (late start) to analyze needs and set
goals. I provide input for their evaluations, but the department chair
signs off as the administrator.  In the past, I was consulted prior to a
firing situation, though I did not make the final decision. I smooth out
any problems that might arise between assistants and teachers, or
administrators. I consider the assistants and myself to be a "library team"
but realize that the assistants do not get paid to put in extra time,
contact parents, perform professional work, etc. I'm the professional who
needs to complete these tasks.  Please email me off list if you have any
