At this point, I think most people on this list have heard that there is more at risk in the proposed cuts in federal funding for IMLS, NEA, NEH, and PBS in Trump's budget. We can cut if off in congress but only if you voice your concerns and help us rally more Americans. We made it easy to do on this form. Please send an email to your representatives and share it in your networks! Once you send your email, you'll be taken to another page where you can find more actions to take to support IMLS.

Those funds are used by the Illinois State Library to be able to fund services to all types of libraries as well as grant opportunities. Since the State of Illinois has made cuts to funds for library services, these federal dollars are cruicial. Loss of these funds will impact all types of libraries.

The Alliance Library System used this grant in 2003 to recruit and mentor 31 graduate students who enrolled in the Dominican University School of Library and Information Science. The Chicago Public Schools also received a grant in 2006 for the training of fifteen elementary school teachers to become school librarians through Dominican University. Some of the readers of I-Share may have received their master's degrees from one of these programs.

>> The White House budget calls for eliminating the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS), the only federal agency charged with providing support to the nation's hundreds of thousands of libraries and museums. Please share your photo or story of how support from IMLS has enabled you and your library or museum to help the teens in your community. YALSA will use this information to advocate against the elimination of IMLS. Thank you!

>> Don’t know much about IMLS? Here’s a quick overview: through IMLS, every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. territories receive funding to support their state’s libraries and museums. In FY14 the total funding IMLS distributed to states and territories was $154,800,000. In addition, IMLS offers competitive grant opportunities that individual libraries and museums can apply for. In FY14 they awarded 594 grants (from 1,299 applications) totaling more than $54,700,000.
