[ISLMA-Share] Battle of the Books

I've had a Battle of the Books for nine years and I get a high level of
participation between my 4th - 6th grades. This year I had 17 teams and 68
kids participating. This is no little thing because we are a small school.

I mix up the master reading list with current Bluestems and Caudills, but
then I also put graphic novels, picture books for older readers, and books
that are terrific but seem to have gotten lost over the years (Kira-Kira,
The White Giraffe, Hatchet, When Zachary Beaver Came to Town).

I launch the BOB season in November and my kids form teams right away.
They have to register with me to get in on the game (parents' permission
needed). I figure if they form a team they're reading the books. Our
games are played in March, right before spring break.

This year I partnered with two other schools. After our individual school
games we played an interscholastic three-school game. It was a wonderful
experience!

Good luck to you. I hope you hook more kids next year!
