A good one might be Full of Beans by Jenny Holm for community. Bean is all about helping preserve his town by creating what today is known as Key West. Great characters, witty dialogue, humor, plot equals one of my favorite books from last year.....

all by Tarshis

other tornado:
Hank the Cowdog: Case of the Killer Tornado.
Disaster STrikes (Kennedy)

Katrina:
Zane & the Hurricane by Philbrick
Upside Down in the Middle of Nowhere by Lamana
Ninth Ward by Rhodes

a great non-fiction to pair with the Katrina books: Drowned City by Don Brown.
