[ISLMA-Share] WARNING: email hack

[Email list for the Illinois School Library Media Association]

Is this the Google doc phishing scam that ran across the country today?
This was widespread, not just here in Illinois.

Basically:

Users saw an email that states that someone they may or may not recognize
is sharing a Doc with them.  If they clicked the link and it offered to
give them access, provided they entered their email address and password.

Doing so would immediately launch another round of the same emails to
everyone in their contact list, appearing to come from them.  There was
also a cc address in this that came from an address "@mailitron.com"  It
would also install a fake app that would gain access to their Google Drive.

I say "would" because Google dealt with the fake app and began repairs
several hours ago.

That doesn't mean that a non-app version of this won't come around again.
We experienced on a month or two back when a server hosting many of the
main statewide lists was hacked.

We (school techs) are encouraging users to always think before clicking
links and to report any network or email oddities to their school technical
support.

An example of "oddity" -- in this case the users are already logged into
their account. There should be no routine reason to have to provide that
information again to gain access to a shared document.

If you did not provide your email address and password when prompted for it
within the email you should be fine.  If you did, please change your email
password now and notify your school technical support, thanks.
