[ISLMA-Share] New library spaces

You have electrical outlets and storage room, but make sure you have electrical outlets in your storage room for charging items you don't want out all the time. We repeatedly said that we were going to be using my storage room to charge Chromebook carts and still had to have the electrician come back and add them when we were almost finished because they didn't think we would need electrical outlets in the storage room.


Other items:

  *   ?Flexibility of the space (if you build in a carpet square or tile "area rug" to define a space, and then you move things around, is it going to look weird?); furniture will probably come later, but get everything on wheels that you can, it's awesome!
  *   Circulation Desk - mine was designed and built by the designer at architect's firm to save money and I like it a lot because I had a lot of say in it, but I know others haven't been happy with theirs when done this way. I also used to work in an elementary that had an adult standing height circ. desk that was dumb for an elementary library because the kids couldn't see over the top of it.
  *   Separate areas - does a green screen need to be closed off so it can be used when the library is noisy, do you already have that somewhere else in your building, etc.

We will have 2 new K-5 library centers in the next few years as they are revamping our 50 years old spaces... I am meeting with the architects next week. What are some things that I should request in regards to the space itself?
