[ISLMA-Share] Checkout during scheduled library or separate?

Greetings! My principal just came to me with a proposal for next year about
separating checkout time from our fixed schedule of hour-long library each
week. Since we are adding a Makerspace she feels that more of my time would
be better used for instruction towards that. I shared my strong feelings
about how hard I work to build reading relationships with our 600+ students
(grades K-6), and she feels that I would still be able to do that. Has
anyone else separated checkout time away from library instruction time? How
has it worked or not worked for you? Please share all pros and cons and
ideas. I do have a full time clerk as well.
