[ISLMA-Share] Reading Ordinary People in 7th Grade

My LA teachers are doing a character book study using Lucy Calkins. We
pulled a lot of different books, including Lord of the Flies and Ordinary
People. Now another teacher is complaining about Ordinary People because of
the word "ass" and the suicide. I am arguing that, in the wake of 13
Reasons Why, this is the perfect time to have an informed conversation, but
maybe I can't see past the censorship issue? We've had copies of Ordinary
People in our bookroom since long before I began working there, and over
the years the teachers have requested to keep the book.

I need pros and cons of keeping the book. As of now, the LA teachers are
going to pull it from the students currently reading it, which I am trying
to avoid.

Thanks in advance!
Mallory
