[ISLMA-Share] Making Overdue Books Lost

[Email list for the Illinois School Library Media Association]

You go to the Back Office. Then Library Policies. Then Circulation Types. Set Overdue to lost to 1 day. Come back the next day and it magically does all of ‘em.

During the school year, I unclick the box in front of the “overdue to lost” days.

Does anyone know if there a way on Destiny to change the status of all the books that are checked out to lost at once rather than doing it one at a time?

This is a good feature if you don’t do fines for overdue books.  It’s easier to tell if you need to track down kids or replace missing books during the year.  However, if you do collect fines for overdue books when a “lost” book is returned, it does not figure out how many days it was overdue.  We have to count it out on our calendar and manually add the late fee to the account.

Does anyone give students a certain # of days to return a book before it is automatically marked lost (30, 60, 90)? We are looking into this feature in Destiny but wanted to hear some pros and cons first. At this time, we do not fine for over dues.
