[ISLMA-Share] Celebrations

Almost all my programming is passive. Stations are setup in the library and students engage at their leisure. We have an open campus so a lot of students choose to be and are regulars in the library during their free hour. On May the 4th (Star Wars Day), I showed Rogue One and The Force Awakens all day, but I usually show movies or set up the video games after school.

Gretchen--are these just "drop in " activities?

I usually run 2 themed, week-long celebrations (one in each semester), and I just pick the theme based on what's popular. We've done:

Pokemon

Harry Potter

Star Wars

Sherlock

The Avengers

John Greene

Steampunk

Hunger Games

Divergent

Alice in Wonderland

Each week has the same components: a craft table or tech petting-zoo and puzzles or trivia with prizes that change every day, a literary connection, a writing center, a movie, open mic or YouTube Karaoke, and a tabletop & video gaming day.

The fall one is flexible based on when our Homecoming is scheduled and the spring one is usually the week before Spring Break.

Hope this helps!

Don't forget National Library Week in April. I have raffles for students throughout the week.

Hi, everyone!

I am planning for next year and looking ahead at celebrations for the library. So far, I have:

Picture Book Month

Hour of Code

Global Read-Aloud

World Read-Aloud Week

Children’s Book Week

March Book Madness

Dr. Seuss’ birthday

What am I missing? Whether it is something you do in your own library, something state-wide, national, or international, I want to hear about it! Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it.
