[ISLMA-Share] Crazy Question

I am loving all these great anecdotes! Perfect for a Friday. My humble contribution is one I get frequently.

Student: I need a book.
Me: What are you in the mood to read?
Student: Something good.
Me: … Great! Are you in the mood for action, adventure, comedy, scary, mystery…?
Student: Anything really. Just a good book. Nothing boring.

I have over 1500 fiction titles plus short stories and graphic novels not to mention 3000 plus non-fiction titles. Most of the time I can figure out what they are after and give them a few great suggestions. But over and over kids just expect I can show them the “good books” section.

At the last high schooI I was at, I was setting up a display for Banned Books Week when a new teacher came up to me and with pure indignation asked me "What do you mean these books are banned!?" Ummm....

A student kept coming in asking for a Minecraft book. It was always checked out. Finally, he got really exasperated.
"Why don't you get more?"
"We don't have the money right now"
"Well, just ask your parents!"

Later, I told this story to my mother, and God bless her, she took out her wallet, handed me a twenty, and said "You get that boy his books!"

This isn't really a question, but it is one of my all time favorite student statements:

A day after borrow Pride and Prejudice, an 8th grade girl returned the book and said, "I can't read this, it's in English!"

Me: “No, that would be “hysterical” fiction…” ☺

"I want that book where somebody doesn't like somebody"

Do you remember anything else?

"You read it to us"

Processing, scanning my brain--aha!--is it this one? Ballet Cat: The totally secret secret

"Yes!!"

"I want the book my sister checked last week"

That one takes many questions and guesses until we find the answer. Another one that I get like it is

"I want the book you talked about that has a red cover on it"

1st-grade student: "I want to read a nonfiction book about the tooth fairy."

me: (Show her some picture books)

student: "No, I want the true facts and real pictures of the tooth fairy!"

me: "Hmmm..I think those are all checked out right now."

Lol!

All,

What was your craziest, most random or hardest Reader's Advisory question? And the answer if you found it.

You know like the question: "I read a book with a blue cover that I liked, but I can't remember the title."

I'm collecting for a class.

Thanks for the help.
