[ISLMA-Share] Crazy Question

My least favorite question is "I'm looking for a short book".

Another crazy, round-about story:

The other day a 7th grade student who just moved recently from India. She
is the sweetest girl, but sometimes hard to understand. Loves books and
loves coming to the library. Here's the path we took the other day:

She asks for an "adventure" book.
I try to get an idea of what type of adventure she wants, like an outdoor
adventure, crazy thriller, etc.
She mentions she liked The Seventh Most Important Thing (not an
adventure...)
I pull other realistic stories.
She asks for more books by the author of Seventh Most Important Thing
I show her Shelley Pearsall, but she doesn't really love historical fiction
(and that's most of her books, of course).
Then she mentions her love of biographies.
Then she mentions that in her teacher's room there was a book called
"Throne of Fire" (Rick Riordan, but #2 in a series). I mention that it's
number two, tell her the title of number one and a bit of the description,
but she doesn't seem interested.
She also mentions that her teacher had a book called "Eclipse" (Twilight
book 3, of course). I mention book 1 to her and tell her it's about a girl
who falls in love with a vampire. She says "That's weird". We move on...
She goes into the biography section herself and finds a book I've honestly
never seen and says "This one looks pretty good". It's a story of a person
in Auschwitz. I ask her if she knows what Auschwitz is. She says no. I
said it's a concentration camp and ask if she knows what that is and she
says no. I give her a brief breakdown of Hitler, over 6 million Jewish
people murdered...doesn't ring any bells. I tell her she probably won't
understand that book, then, so she should try for something else.
She mentions The Great Glass Elevator and her love of Roald Dahl.
She walks away with BFG....

What a whirlwind!
